Our Story · Canggu, since 2018

We don’t start with vegan. We start with food.

Zee and Alex opened iam VEGAN BABE in Canggu on 12 September 2018. The food comes first.

Where a dish starts

  • A craving
  • A classic we love
  • A childhood memory
  • A plate from our travels

Most of our menu begins with a craving. A classic we love. Something remembered from childhood. A plate we ate while travelling and couldn’t stop thinking about. Zee develops most of the dishes together with Alex, testing and tasting until the plant-based version is every bit as satisfying as the one we remember. Nothing goes on the menu just because it’s vegan. It goes on because we want to eat it again.

Made in our kitchen

We make almost everything here. From scratch, in our kitchen.

Our dishes are built from ingredients, not ready-made restaurant components. It takes longer, and it’s a big part of why the food tastes the way it does.

We could take shortcuts. We simply don’t.

Since 12 September 2018

2018 to today

We opened in September 2018, kept going through the COVID years and haven’t stopped evolving since. What began as a breakfast and brunch spot is now a restaurant from the first coffee of the morning to dinner.

Come hungry.

Genuinely great food that happens to be fully plant-based. You don’t have to be vegan to be a Vegan Babe.
